Sisters

Emny DeLeon

When I was researching sororities in which to join, I wanted an organization to have the same values and missions that I had set to myself. Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc. never crossed my mind until I met some Phenomenal women of the Alpha Chapter during one of their events at the University of Michigan. Once I started my undergraduate at Grand Valley State University, I started to look into the sororities that  my university offered, but none truly felt like home or a family. I knew I could have joined any of the sororities at Grand Valley but they did not give me that warm fuzzy feeling that Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc did. At first I was scared to bring Delta Tau Lambda to Grand Valley because for some reason I thought I was going to disappoint the organization. After talking to my line sisters and some Phenomenal women, I knew I was making the right choice.

Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc. has become more then just a sorority but a family. As soon as something happens in my life, my sisters are one of the first people I want to talk to. One of the reasons I wanted to join a sorority is because of sisterhood and Delta Tau Lambda Sorority has given me that and much more.

Becoming part of Delta Tau Lambda (DTL) has been one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made. I wanted to become part of DTL since the first informational I attended in 2012. I was very impressed by the sisters who presented at Grand Valley because not only had they traveled from across the state but they were very organized and coordinated. They made a great impression and captivated my interest. At the time I was searching for an organization that exhibited professionalism, sisterhood, and community involvement and these were qualities I saw in the sorority. In addition, all the sorority chapters fundraise for their Lydia Cruz & Sandra Maria Ramos Scholarship and this was what blew me away. My college education has been funded primarily through scholarships and the thought of me being able to fundraise for a scholarship for a young emerging Latina was very special. Since becoming a member of DTL my leadership and professional skills have really improved. I have constantly been learning and growing in so many aspects. This lifetime sisterhood is exactly what I was searching for! I am so proud to say that I am a sister of Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc.

Through my journey of researching different sororities I already knew what kind of organization I wanted to join. I wanted an organization to have the same values and missions that I had set to myself. Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc. never crossed my mind until I met some Phenomenal women of the Alpha Chapter and Eta Chapter at an informational at Grand Valley State University. I started to look into sororities before transferring to Grand Valley State University from Grand Rapids Community College but none truly felt like family. Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc. has become more than just a sorority but a family. As soon as something happens in my life, I tend to tell my sisters first than anybody else. One of the main reasons I wanted to join a sorority is because of sisterhood I am the only child in my household and I grew up by myself. I never had the opportunity to have brothers or sisters next to me to either fight, love, talk, etc. and Delta Tau Lambda Sorority has given me that and much more. I am proud to say that I am a sister of Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc. and I do not regret it.

From the moment the women of Delta Tau Lambda (DTL) gave an informational at Grand Valley State

University (GVSU) in September of 2012, I knew DTL was perfect for me. At the time, I was looking into

other sororities but I could not find the one that caught my attention, then DTL came to the rescue. I

remember clearly, how nice and humble these women were. They traveled all the way from across the

state and I was so honored to hear them speak. As soon as I left the informational, I knew becoming

a founder of the chapter here at GVSU, was what I truly wanted to do. It was a long journey, a year

and three months to be exact, but every waiting moment was worth it. Ever since becoming a founder

and member of the Lambda chapter, I have experienced so much that I would have never had the

opportunity to experience had I not joined this phenomenal sisterhood. DTL has taught me personal,

professional and academic growth. My main reason for joining the sorority was the four main charitable

causes the organization focuses on: breast cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and mental health. They focus

on the issues of all people versus only one and I absolutely love it. Now as the Vice President and Intake Coordinator of DTL, I feel that I am growing into the woman I have always wanted to be. DTL is truly preparing me for a successful future! I love my brown and gold ALWAYS accented in cream.
