HERSTORY

On April 2, 1994 two women of strength and integrity united to develop the first and only Latina-based sorority founded at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. On this day Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Incorporated was born. Their mission was to build an organization that would bring about greatness to the communities in which the organization was a part of while working with women that strived for professionalism and leadership.

The founders, Darilís García and Maria Victoria Ramos, focused their efforts on academic excellence, community service and professionalism. With that in mind in the summer of 1994 the women selected their charitable causes, and created their staple program the Salute to Latinas, Fuerza de la Mujer Latina. In 1995 Darilís and  Maria founded the Lydia Cruz and Sandra Maria Ramos Scholarship. The events they sponsored always represented, and continue to represent, the diversity they embraced.

Since 1994 members have committed themselves to empower and uplift the organization as well as their communities.  They have done community services projects that expand from thanksgiving baskets and child safety fairs to national projects such as the American Diabetes Association walk and Race for the Cure.

Delta Tau Lambda has been recognized on campuses and communities across the U.S. as a strong organization. It has been the hard work, pride and dedication of its members that has helped bring about excellence to every endeavor the organization does.

Lambda Chapter Herstory

On January 11, 2014 the Lambda chapter of Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc. was chartered at Grand Valley State University (GVSU). The five chartering members are: Emny DeLeon, Brenda Garcia, Rachel Lantigua, Loanna Abreu and Kayla Mayhue. Since Fall 2012, there was a strong interest to bring Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Incorporated to GVSU. At the time there were only two other Latina-based, multicultural sororities on campus which limited the options for diverse women interested in Greek life. The founding members wanted to provide more options for other women and attract more diversity to the campus.

We are a community-service based organization with a focus on academic excellence. We Provide support for members and work endlessly towards the empowerment of people of color in the community. We are unwavering in our efforts to promote higher education to youth and in aiding them in to utilizing education as a tool to achieve their dreams. In working with diverse groups, we expand our cultural horizons while identifying common problems and defining collective solutions. We believe that through the hard work and dedication any goal can be met. We stand close to our beliefs, morals and ethics and we strive to educate others on issues important to us. We, as sisters form close bonds with each other, becoming each others family away from home. We are a support system for each other and we believe in keeping these bonds forever. Within the state of Michigan the organization has five collegiate and two professional/graduate chapters that provide great support to chapters across the state.
